Goals Achieved With A Child Adolescent Therapist Chester County Pennsylvania

By Carol Murray

Children and teens need help with certain issues in their lives just as much as adults do. Sadly, parents are not aware of this. They don't always know the signs to look out for. Of course, these days more parents are becoming educated as the problems become more serious. Teachers also know something about this and will recommend a child adolescent therapist Chester County Pennsylvania.

Children who are not counselled at the time of a divorce will grow up with a lot of guilt. This is the way a child's mind works. There are many other behaviours that they will have to deal with and this will play a role in their adult lives. There are child psychologists that will be able to help with these types of issues.

Many kids will not be comfortable talking to another adult. Therapists are aware of this. They will use a number of different methods. There are practical skills that can be very useful. This can be something creative, such as drawing or writing. A creative therapist will specialize in this. It can be something that the child actually enjoys.

Teachers are now able to tell more about the symptoms of various disorders, both emotional and behavioural. It can relate to a teenager with depression. Parents find this difficult to find out more about because teens go through many different stages. However, you can tell whether there is more of a severe problem if the teen is isolating themselves for a longer period than usual.

An older individual may be able to express themselves during therapy, but the psychologist will feel that variety is important. Creative therapy is often a good idea. This will involve drawing and painting as well as listening to music or dancing. It can help the child to relax. It can also help the child to connect with the psychologist. Children enjoy painting and drawing and become very honest as they take part in this activity.

A psychologist is not allowed to communicate with the parent. There are certain boundaries that exist and it would be unethical to make contact with parents. Of course, if the therapist finds that the child is subject to danger then they would have to report the case. There may be abuse or violence in the home. Even if the child disagrees with this, the psychologist has the right to report this because they would have the child's best interest at heart.

Groups can be helpful when the teen is more extroverted. However, some therapists believe that the individual needs to get out of their comfort zone. It can be a gradual process. Someone with social anxiety disorder, for example will take advantage of this. However, it is a big step and one needs to work towards this.

You will find that when this is more severe and it carries on for more than two weeks that a teenager will be suffering from something more serious. This is often the time when more serious disorders occur. The sooner they are dealt with, the easier it becomes to live with, so one needs to grab the bull by the horns.
