These Are The Facts One Should Know About Biomedicines

Biomedicine is a one of the branches within the field of medicine. It is a field of medical science that approaches clinical practice through physiological and biological principles. In particular, biomedicines apply to physiology and biology. Besides medical science, this field also applies to many other fields, especially those that are related to health and biology in general.

Many subspecialties fall under biomedicine, especially those that bear the bio prefix. Some of them include biological engineering, biostatistics, cytogenetics, genetics, biotechnology, virology, pathology, anatomy, cell biology, physiology, toxicology, and molecular biology among many others. Most of these fields have many things in common. In fact, it is simple for a student to switch between them through short transitional courses.

As a field, modern health care and laboratory diagnostics are based on medical biology. Medical biology as a field is concerned with various kinds of scientific and technological approaches. These methods cut across both biology and physiology. The methods used in this area vary from understanding the connections at molecular level to understanding its significance at the level of in vivo. These procedures are put under study to assist in coming up with new approaches for diagnosis and therapy.

The field of biomedicine identifies diseases in people, animals, and plants and proceeds to investigate them. The field helps in the formulation of medical intervention approaches. As opposed to the field of medicine as a whole, biomedicine is more concerned with improving the health of the affected individual or entity. On the other hand, medicine aims at just curing the disease that one has been diagnosed with.

Another vital subdivision in the area of biomedicine is molecular biology. This subdivision handles all the procedures to do with synthesis and regulation of DNA, RNA, and protein in cells. Molecular biology employs different methods such as macromolecule blotting, polymerase, Gel electrophoresis and chain reaction. The above methods help in manipulation of DNA in animals and humans.

In the process of polymerase chain reaction it involves mixing of nucleotide bases, DNA, primers and DNA polymerase after which it is placed in a machine. The machine is used to heat and cool the mixture at variable temperatures. During this process the hydrogen bond binding DNA is broken making it possible for nucleotide bases to be added into the DNA strands creating a new pattern of DNA strand.

Gel electrophoresis is another technique that is employed in molecular biology. It is used in the identification of similar DNA in samples of unknown DNA. The process involves the preparation of an agarose gel. The gel contains wells into which DNA is poured before an electric current is applied to it. DNA strands are then attracted to the positive electrode depending on the protein groupings it contains.

The speed at which DNA strands move to the positively charged electrode usually vary because the strands are of different sizes. It is possible to tell if two strands are similar from the pattern they exhibit in their movement. Similar strands will tend to move at the same speed and have the same pattern.
