People become anxious because they have a deadline coming up at work or there is a problem with a personal relationship of theirs. However, they usually feel as if they are in control of this. This remains true because everyone becomes anxious from time to time. In saying that, there are also people who have this psychological disorder because of other disorders that are present. Sometimes, you don't know why you are plagued with it, and other times you have to work through the underlying emotions to find out more about the root of the problem.

Other times, the anxiety is spurred on because of a childhood issue, such as when they have grown up in a dysfunctional home.

One must never ignore these feelings in your life. Obviously, everyone worries from time to time. However, when this begins to drag on and you feel that it is becoming a problem in your life, you need to take control. It can be panic that you are suffering from. This can be hugely frightening and it can lead to isolation. It can also be something more general where you tend to worry about everything.

You need to focus on the techniques which will help you in more of a practical way. Many counsellors believe in the practical techniques and find these to be more effective. For example, someone with social anxiety won't benefit as much simply by talking. They actually need to be taking baby steps and socializing. Of course, they need to follow up with the therapist. Group therapy is also good for this because they will get to understand that everyone is in the same boat.
