How To Manage Life With A Trauma Counselor Chester County Pennysylvania

By Susan Richardson

People may suffer from depression, anxiety or stress which can result in them going to a counsellor or therapist. However, it is often here where they find that the problem is in fact much deeper. Counselors are gifted in dealing with issues that clients talk about, especially things that seem to bother them relating to the past. Often, this is trauma related. A trauma counselor Chester County Pennysylvania is often the right person to deal with at times like these.

Sometimes you won't know what a safe environment is. You may have been abused when you were much younger. In cases like these, you will often feel that you are not able to trust anyone. It is usually a person that is close to you that has abused you. Learning to make the changes and to discover more about who you are is all part of the process.

This takes a lot of courage to say because not many people are able to expose their vulnerable side, so you have to be strong to get to this point. You may be physically strong. You may be able to fight in a war. However, you have to ask yourself whether you can face the anxiety and anger that you are left with on your own. Those who have turned to a professional for this kind of help often come out strong on the other side.

However, you need to find someone who is most suitable for you. You need a therapist is not going to put you down or be impatient with you. It is important to shop around and make sure that you are happy with the person you eventually connect with. Bear in mind that this can take time. You won't connect with them overnight so it is important to keep this in mind before you jump from one counsellor to the next.

There are also people who have been exposed to trauma as a once off. Although they won't feel that they are constantly searching for a safe space because of the fear of an uncle who is going to abuse you or something similar, they will be suffering from trauma of another nature. They will probably have a lot of symptoms that they are stuck with and this can be difficult to manage.

Someone who has suffered from complex trauma will be suffering from other symptoms which may require group therapy as well. However, this will depend on the person. Once again, it requires baby steps because when you rush into this, you will find that it can lead to drastic results where you will have to cope with flashbacks and these kinds of memories can be hugely traumatic.

Deciding to go to a counsellor is the first step to take, and often the most difficult one. It is especially hard when you have not addressed this before and when you have never been to a counsellor. It can be tough when you have to be vulnerable, especially in a case like this. However, the counsellor will analyse your behaviour and personality and they will handle the situation gently.

This can be helpful for when someone is not used to talking about what they are going through. They will feel that they will feel better expressing themselves in other ways. Children who have suffered from trauma also do better when they are expressing themselves in this way. It is more of a natural approach for them.
